Group Therapy
Why Group Therapy?
Tired of traditional talk therapy? Do you feel stuck and unable to find the roots of your pain? If you’re tired of dancing around your issues, we have a unique approach to help you get to the root.
Our groups offer support, education, and an opportunity to explore your inner world in a deeper way. Clients report spontaneous changes in their nervous systems, shifts in behaviors, healthier relationships with emotions, and feeling more adaptable in their overall lives.
Group therapy is extremely powerful because groups mimic our original natural social environments. This allows group therapy to both evoke our trauma and then provide a space for it to be healed in a way that individual therapy cannot.
Group therapy can help access the deeper areas of the brain where trauma resides (Gantt & Badenoch, 2013). Group also activates specific nerves in the body (“Social Engagement System”) which provide safety and calm when members share and receive compassion.
All pain is relational pain. Healing must involve relationships.
Is Group Right for Me?
Group therapy can be a powerful way to heal, but it’s not the right fit for everyone at every stage. Here are some things to consider:
You’re ready to connect. You are willing to be present with others, and offer validation and support.
You’re curious about yourself. Our groups aren’t just about sharing. They allow you to find your blind spots and explore areas that you might not be aware of.
You can tolerate discomfort. Group therapy is a powerful way to bring up (“trigger”) deep emotions and pain. If you are willing to work through it with the group, we can help you heal those original wounds. If your system is already overwhelmed, group may end up being destabilizing.
You’re not in immediate crisis. Group is a “neural exercise” and will feel like an emotional workout. If you’re in survival mode, it will be hard for your nervous system to offer care, self-reflect, and take in safety cues from others. This doesn’t mean that group isn’t for you — we’d just suggest starting with individual therapy first to build a stronger foundation.
Types of Groups
-
Ready for a faster, skills-focused approach to healing? This short-term group is built for people who want real tools — not just talk. Led by licensed therapists John Maxwell, LPCC, and Chelsea Meyer, LPCC, we’ll offer a safe space packed with education, practice, and support.
You'll learn how trauma affects the body and mind and how to use your nervous system to heal. In just a few sessions, we’ll cover:
How adult and childhood trauma shape us
How trauma impacts your body and personality
Techniques to finish off and complete traumas
How connection helps healing
Perfect for those healing from trauma or supporting someone who is.
Clinically, we draw from Somatic Experiencing and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
Note: This group is less about processing specific traumas or sharing specific stories. While this may happen from time to time, the main focus of the group is on learning.
-
This group is for those ready to go deeper — not just learning, but healing together. After building skills in our education group, this next step invites you to apply them in a safe, supportive group setting.
With continued guidance from licensed therapists John Maxwell, LPCC, and Chelsea Meyer, LPCC, you'll have opportunities to explore the roots of your pain.
Together, we’ll focus on:
Deepening self-relationship
Building trust, giving and receiving support
Gently exploring past wounds.
This group is about real change — and you won’t have to do it alone
Clinically, we draw from IFS, Psychodrama, Somatic, and EMDR.
-
The focus of this group is to help members to deepen their Internal Family Systems (IFS) work to befriend their inner worlds and to release trauma. We will also draw from Psychodrama and Somatic therapy.
This group is led by John Maxwell, LPCC only.
